Saint John Sea Dogs News Release
SAINT JOHN - The Saint John Sea Dogs continue to round out their roster, as Director of Hockey Operations Mike Kelly announced the addition of 17-year-old forward Denis Creighton as a free agent Friday.
The native of Port Colborne, Ont., was obtained from the Thorold Blackhawks of the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League. Creighton recorded a goal, an assist and 45 penalty minutes in 16 games at the junior B level. Listed at six-foot-one, 188 pounds, Creighton is the son of former NHL player Adam Creighton, who played 708 games with the Buffalo Sabres, Chicago Blackhawks, New York Islanders, Tampa Bay Lightning and St. Louis Blues. Creighton and Sea Dogs Head Coach Gerard Gallant were teammates with the Lightning in 1993-94.
Creighton is the second addition to the forward ranks in recent days. The team picked up 19-year-old forward Grant West on waivers last week, and he scored his first Quebec Major Junior Hockey League goal in Saturday's 6-0 win over the Chicoutimi Sagueneens. West also showcased his toughness, dropping the gloves with former Sea Dogs enforcer Alexandre Beauregard.
The Dogs now have 14 forwards on their roster.
Saint John, No. 2 in the BMO Canadian Hockey League Top 10 rankings, continues its four-game road swing with back-to-back dates in Baie-Comeau tonight and Saturday. The Drakkar (11-6) held the No. 2 spot in last week's CHL rankings, but fell all the way out of the Top 10 after a pair of losses. Friday's game is an 8:30 p.m. Atlantic Time start and Saturday's puck drop is at 5 p.m. Tim Roszell will have the call on News 88.9 FM. Fans can also catch all the action online via the official TELUS QMJHL webcast.
