BAIE-COMEAU, Que. - The Saint John Sea Dogs got back in the win column in a big way Friday, taking the first of back-to-back games against the Baie-Comeau Drakkar by a 7-0 score.

Jonathan Huberdeau had a goal and two assists, while Danick Gauthier and Zack Phillips notched a goal and a helper each. Spencer MacDonald, Kevin Gagne, Grant West and Oliver Cooper added singles to round out the summary. Mathieu Corbeil turned in a 30-save performance for his fourth shutout in six games, tying the team record of four shutouts set by Jacob DeSerres last season.

Antonio Mastropietro stopped 25 shots in the loss.

With the win, the Sea Dogs improved its Quebec Major Junior Hockey League record to 15-6, while the Drakkar's third straight loss dropped them to 11-7.

MacDonald's long shot found its way through for his first QMJHL goal - and the first goal of the hockey game at 2:10 of the first period.

The Sea Dogs faced a tough situation later in the opening frame. With Charles Roussel in the box for a goaltender interference call, Saint John received a bench minor, giving Baie-Comeau a 5-on-3 power play for nearly a minute. But Saint John's penalty kill - which finished a perfect 4-for-4 on the evening - came up big.

Gagne's point shot through a crowd gave the Dogs a 2-0 lead at 15:46 of the first. Gagne's first of the year was a power-play marker against Baie-Comeau's league-best penalty kill, with assists from Stephen MacAulay and Jason Seed. Huberdeau added to the cushion at 18:05 of the first. After a turnover in the neutral zone, Phillips sprung his linemate for a short breakaway from the blueline, which Huberdeau finished with a deke for his 10 th of the season.

West contributed his second goal as a Sea Dog 5:14 into the second period, with assists from Jason Cameron and newcomer Denis Creighton - Creighton's first QMJHL point in his first career game. West scored from his knees, making a second effort to bang in a rebound. Phillips made it 5-0 exactly three minutes later, stripping a fallen Baie-Comeau defender at the Saint John blueline and going in on a 2-on-1 with Huberdeau. The Minnesota Wild prospect took a look at his linemate, then ripped home a laser to make it 5-0. Huberdeau was credited with an assist on the play. Cooper added Saint John's second power-play goal of the evening at 19:39, with assists from Gauthier and Pierre Durepos. The 16-year-old forward from Fredericton now has six goals on the campaign.

Gauthier scored a goal of his own at 11:22 of the third, running his team-best total to 19, with assists from Huberdeau and Aidan Kelly.

The teams renew acquaintances Saturday, a 5 p.m. puck drop. Tim Roszell will have the call on News 88.9 FM . Fans can also catch all the action online via the official TELUS QMJHL webcast.
