Saint John Sea Dogs News Release

The Saint John Sea Dogs (2-3-2-1) treated fans to a home win on Halloween afternoon as they downed the Cape Breton Eagles (4-6-0-0) 5-3 at TD Station.

It was a rematch between goalies as Noah Patenaude started once again for Saint John while the Eagles went with rookie Nicolas Ruccia. Eagles regular starter William Grimard is out with an injury.

Saint John were without defencemen Hunter Gartley and Benjamin Roode, and forward Julian Vander Voet (healthy scratches).

It was all Sea Dogs in the first period as they came out with a bang to start the game. Nicholas Girouard scored his first of the night at 2:42, his second of the season. Former Sea Dog Nathan Larose tied the game three minutes later but the Sea Dogs would regain the lead and keep it for the remainder of the game. Joshua Roy scored his team leading sixth goal on a nice feed from Kale McCallum who made a heads up play to intercept a pass and keep the puck in the zone. At 12:33 Nicholas Girouard had his second of the game on the power play as Brady Burns found him from behind the net to make it 3-1.

The Eagles showed life to start the second when Felix Lafance scored a shorthanded marker 44 seconds into the period. Momentum evened for the next 10 minutes before Saint John extended the lead yet again on a goal in tight from Peter Reynolds, which proved to be the game winner. The Eagles closed the gap two minutes later on a power play goal from Shawn Element. Saint John held a 4-3 lead through the first 40 minutes.

31 seconds into the third period Riley Bezeau scored his second of the season on a tight angle shot, icing the game. The Eagle pulled Ruccia with two minutes to play but neither team could capitalize. The final score, 5-3.

Girouard finished +1 with two goals, Charlie DesRoches was +2 with three assists. Patenaude made 29 stops in the win.
