
Sea Dogs Stay Hot and Win Fifth Consecutive Game

Binghamton, New York - The Portland Sea Dogs won their fifth consecutive game tonight with a 7-4 victory over the Binghamton Rumble Ponies. Portland improves to 38-41 overall, and are currently in first place in the Northeast Division. Binghamton drops to 31-48.
The Rumble Ponies were first to score after Brett Baty put the Rumble Ponies on the board in the bottom of the third inning with a two-out solo homer to left field and Binghamton led, 1-0.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, Wyatt Young worked a lead-off walk then moved to third on a single by Zach Ashford. A sacrifice fly by Matt Winaker brought home Young and extended Binghamton's lead, 2-0. Brandon McIlwain then blasted a two-run homer to left field and the Rumble Ponies led, 4-0.
The Sea Dogs staged their comeback in the top of the eighth inning. David Hamilton led off the inning with a single to right field then Izzy Wilson worked a walk. Kole Cottam smashed a three-run home run to left field and Portland was on the board, 4-3. Ceddanne Rafaela then singled to right and Christian Koss blasted his ninth home run of the year to left field, and the Sea Dogs led, 5-4.
In the top of the ninth inning, Portland added two insurance runs. Hamilton doubled down the left-field line then scored on a triple by Izzy Wilson. Wil Dalton drove home Wilson with a double to right field, extending Portland's lead 7-4.
Jay Groome had another stellar outing for the Sea Dogs. The starter tossed 6.0 innings allowing one run on five hits while walking one and striking out seven, lowering his ERA to 3.52. Brendan Nail earns his second win of the year for Portland, pitching 1.0 inning allowing three runs on two hits while walking one and striking out two. Antonio Santos was given the loss, pitching 1.1 innings allowing four runs on five hits while striking out two.
The Sea Dogs and Rumble Ponies meet again tomorrow, July 9th at 6:35pm at Mirabito Stadium. RHP Bryan Mata (0-0, 1.23 ERA) will take the mound for Portland while Binghamton will send RHP Justin Lasko (3-1, 5.79 ERA) to the bump.
