
Ducks and Curve Split High Scoring Doubleheader with Akron Taking Game One 8-3 and Altoona Taking Game Two 6-5 in Extras

Summary
Jose Tena's grand slam capped a five-run fourth in game one to help the Akron RubberDucks to a 8-3 win while the Altoona Curve capitalized on bases loaded in extra innings to take game two 6-5 in a doubleheader split on Friday night at Canal Park.
Turning Point
In the eighth inning, a walk to Matt Frazier and a Dylan Shockley single loaded the bases. A soft ground out down the first base line brought home Fabricio Macias to give the Curve 6-5 lead in game two.
After falling behind 3-2 in the fourth inning, Akron's offense looked to answer back in game one. Micah Pries lead off the with a single and was driven in by a Raynel Delgado double, tying the game 3-3. A Julian Escobedo walk and Eric Rodriguez single lead to a Jose Tena grand slam, putting Akron up 7-3 in game one.
Mound Presence
Brett Daniels started the second game of the doubleheader for the RubberDucks and found himself into some trouble to begin the game allowing a three-run home run to Liover Peguero. Daniels was strong the rest of the way tossing three and third allowing five runs (one earned) while striking out four. Thomas Ponticelli followed with two and two thirds scoreless innings. Carlos Vargas tossed two innings allowing an unearned run.
Luis Oviedo started his outing strong but found trouble in the fourth inning allowing three runs. Oviedo finished his outing working four innings giving up three runs and picking up three strikeouts. Randy Labaut pitched three hitless innings allowing only a single walk and striking out four.
Duck Tales
In the second inning of game two, Jhonkensy Noel single got the Ducks offense going. Chris Roller followed with a double to cut the lead to 3-1 for the Curve. In the fourth, Noel hit his sixth home run of the season scoring George Valera to make the score 5-3 Altoona. In in the same inning, a Delgado double and Roller walk and steal set up Julian Escobedo for a two run double to tie the games at 5-5.
Escobedo and Rodriguez lead off the third inning of game one with back-to-back walks, they both advanced with a Tena single. Brayan Rocchio drove in Escobedo with a single giving Akron a 1-0 lead. Valera hit a sacrifice fly to center field to drive home Rodriguez, making it 2-0 Akron through three innings. Roller drove in Delgado with a double in the fifth inning to make it 8-3 Akron.

Valera got his 75th hit of the season, leading team and fourth in Eastern League...Tena picked up his first career grand slam in game one of the doubleheader...Pries extended his hitting streak to 14 games with a game one single, but 0-for-4 in game two snapped the streak...Game Time: 2:01/2:32 ...Attendance: 3,408
