SAINT JOHN - The Saint John Sea Dogs have signed left winger Mitchell Dempsey as a free agent.

Listed at 6'4", 217 lbs., Dempsey played eight games in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) last season with the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds and Kitchener Rangers, registering one assist and ten penalty minutes. He also posted five assists and thirty penalty minutes in 15 games with the Kitchener Dutchmen of the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League (GOJHL). In 78 career OHL games with the Plymouth Whalers, Greyhounds and Rangers, Dempsey totaled two goals and eleven points along with 56 penalty minutes.

The Cambridge, Ontario, native was a seventh-round draft choice (210th overall) of the Boston Bruins in the 2013 NHL Draft.

"Sometimes people need a change of scenery and need the opportunity to reset their careers, and that is what we are offering Mitchell," said Sea Dogs General Manager Darrell Young. "I've met with his family, his agent and members of the Boston Bruins organization. Everyone is in agreement that this is the best place for Mitchell to play.

"The Bruins still believe he is a legitimate NHL prospect. In Saint John, he will have the opportunity to be mentored by assistant coach Jeff Cowan. Jeff played the same way that Mitchell needs to play in order to play at the next level. In Saint John, he will have the opportunity to step in and contribute immediately."

Dempsey is scheduled to participate in the Bruins' development camp this week. He is expected to join the Sea Dogs in time for training camp in August.

Season tickets are on sale now at the Harbour Station box office and the Sea Dogs' office on the pedway level of Harbour Station. Season ticket holders can SAVE up to $170 on their seats when compared with single-game box office prices.
