Sea Dogs Set to Defend Toboggan Title

Portland, Maine- The Portland Sea Dogs front office staff will be returning to the slopes this weekend to defend their toboggan title in the 18th Annual U.S. National Toboggan Championships. The National Toboggan Championship takes place at the Camden Snow Bowl in Camden, Maine from February 8-10, 2008. Last year in the Sea Dogs inaugural run, the team traveled the 400 foot chute in 9.97 seconds, ranking last out of 400 teams entered. However, the Sea Dogs became the fastest toboggan team in professional baseball.
This season, the Sea Dogs are returning with three entries in the event. The original team, consisting of team captain Tony Cameron (former Assistant Director of Ticketing), Jim Heffley (Vice President), Chris Cameron (Assistant General Manager/ Media Relations), and Corey Thompson (Director of Group Sales), will be leading the way. New this year will be an all girls team consisting of Liz Riley (Assistant Director of Ticketing), part-time associates Sarah Connolly and Randi Richards, along with Liz Cameron. Competing in the two person event will be Slugger the Sea Dog and Red Sox Player Development Intern Chris Duncombe.
Qualifying runs for the two-person teams are scheduled for Saturday, February 9th from 9:00 AM to 12:00 Noon. Qualifying runs for the four-person division are scheduled for Saturday, February 9th from 1:00-4:00 PM. This year, there are more than 600 teams registered with teams coming from as far away as California.
The Sea Dogs toboggan teams have taken advantage of the Hadlock Field grandstand for a few practice runs. The team uniforms will consist of a Sea Dogs jersey, mad bomber hat, and goggles. The original toboggan team will be wearing the home white uniforms, the girls team will be wearing the road grays, and the Slugger Team will be donning the alternate red jerseys. Prizes are awarded for the fastest teams and best team costumes.

The Portland Sea Dogs open their 15th season, presented by Northeast Delta Dental, on April 3rd at New Britain. The home opener is slated for Friday, April 11th at 6:00 PM against the New Britain Rock Cats.
