Portland Sea Dogs News Release
Portland, Maine- The Portland Sea Dogs have announced their five Bobblehead Doll giveaways for the 2005 season. Four out of the five bobblehead dolls are part of a Grand Slam Series and the fifth bobblehead is a standalone piece. In commemoration of the Sea Dogs major league affiliate, the World Champion Boston Red Sox, three of the four Grand Slam Series bobblehead dolls are World Series Heroes dolls including Keith Foulke, Curt Schilling, and Manny Ramirez. The fourth doll of the Grand Slam Series features former Sea Dog Edgar Renteria, who has recently joined Red Sox Nation. The standalone piece is of former Red Sox player Babe Ruth. All bobblehead doll giveaways are limited to the first 1,000 fans to enter the ballpark.
The first bobblehead doll giveaway will be on May 10th and will be of baseball legend Babe Ruth (sponsored by Key Bank). After helping the Red Sox capture a World Series title in 1918, Ruth was sold to the New York Yankees and left behind the "Curse of the Bambino," an 86 year drought for Red Sox World Series title hopes. This unique bobblehead will feature Ruth in his original Boston Red Sox uniform commemorating the Red Sox finally lifting the "Curse of the Bambino."
The World Series Heroes dolls will consist of three standouts of the 2004 Boston Red Sox World Series Champions. The first giveaway of this series is scheduled for May 23rd and will be of closer Keith Foulke (sponsored by US Cellular), who saved 32 games for the Red Sox on their quest to the World Series. The second giveaway is scheduled for June 21st and will feature Curt Schilling and his bloody sock (sponsored by Irving Oil). The third and final giveaway of the World Series Heroes dolls is on July 19th and features 2004 World Series MVP Manny Ramirez (sponsored by Bath Savings Bank).
The final bobblehead doll giveaway of 2005 is the last of the Grand Slam Series featuring former Sea Dog and current Red Sox Edgar Renteria (sponsored by Stone Coast Brewing). This bobblehead doll is scheduled for August 23rd and recognizes Renteria's addition to Red Sox Nation. This piece will feature Renteria wearing a Sea Dog's uniform. Renteria was a part of the Sea Dogs team that captured the Northern Division title in 1995, which led to him being named the Florida Marlins Organizational Player of the Year. Renteria is now a three-time Major League All-Star and has appeared in two World Series. In 1997 he collected the game-winning hit in game seven to give the Florida Marlins their first World Series title.
"The popularity of bobblehead doll giveaways continues to amaze us", said Geoff Iacuessa, Director of Sales and Marketing for the Portland Sea Dogs. "Fans line up hours before the gates open to get their hands on these popular collectibles. With the Red Sox winning the World Series, it makes this year's pieces even more desirable."
