Saint John Sea Dogs News Release

SAINT JOHN, Sept. 12, 2005 - The Saint John Sea Dogs have announced the release of 20-year-old Ryan Murphy from the team's training camp roster.

Murphy, the club's second pick in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) expansion draft in June, played last season for the Lewiston MAINEiacs.

With the release of Murphy, the Sea Dogs have met the QMJHL requirement to carry a maximum of five 20-year-old players on its roster.

"Ryan had a good camp, but he is a victim of the numbers game," stated Bob "Tipper" LeBlanc, general manager of the Sea Dogs. "He's a better centre than on the wing where we had been playing him during camp. There are simply other centres that we want to develop."

LeBlanc said the Sea Dog organization is pursuing the trade route for Murphy, but nothing is firm. "We are confident Ryan will land on his feet. We only wish him the best."

Opening night for the expansion Sea Dogs is slated for Harbour Station this Friday (Sept. 16) with a 7 p.m. face-off against the St. John's Fog Devils. The Sea Dogs will then entertain the Halifax Mooseheads in a 4 p.m. Sunday (Sept. 18) start. The club will pay tribute to the Saint John Flames in pre-game ceremonies.

Tickets remain on sale for both weekend games. They can be purchased at the Harbour Station Box Office and the Imperial Theatre. Fans can also call 657-1234 or toll-free 1-800-267-2800.
