Saint John Sea Dogs News Release
SAINT JOHN, February 2, 2008 - The Saint John Sea Dogs will make raising awareness of the need for regular blood donations part of their winning game plan for the month of February.
"We are delighted to be partnering with Canadian Blood Services to raise awareness for this cause," says Sea Dogs President Wayne Long. "We have wonderful fans that are supportive of their team and their community. We hope our fans will make blood donation a part of their game plan and we'll show our appreciation by providing all donors who visit the permanent blood donor clinic in February with a 2-for-1 coupon valid for regular season and first-round play off tickets to a Sea Dogs game."
"We are excited about this partnership and we greatly appreciate the lead the Sea Dogs organization has taken in offering to raise awareness of the importance of blood donation," says Peter MacDonald, Director, Donor & Clinic Services, Atlantic. "Collecting enough blood to meet hospital demand is a constant challenge. Every year we need to recruit 90,000 new donors nationally and we couldn't do it without the help of community groups and organizations like the Saint John Sea Dogs."
In addition to providing 2-for-1 coupons for Sea Dogs tickets, players will attend the February 16 blood donor clinic at 405 University Avenue from 6 to 8 p.m. to greet fans, sign autographs and thank donors for taking the time to give their life-saving gift.
Canadian Blood Services will host an information booth at all home games this February to provide fans with general information about blood donation and the opportunity to book appointments. Do you want to find out your blood type? Take in the Sea Dogs game on Friday, February 13 and visit our What's Your Type table before the game or during first intermission. It takes about two minutes to complete the test and it's a great opportunity to find out that you're the type to save a life.
Saint John permanent blood donor clinic is located at 405 University Avenue. The hours are Mondays and Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
For more information about blood donation or to find a clinic near you, call 1 888 2 DONATE (1-888-236-6283).
The Sea Dogs will be playing home games February 6, 8, 13, 21, 22 and 27. Look for Canadian Blood Services information booth before these games and during the first intermission.
