Montreal Juniors News Release
Montreal. Monday February 2, 2009 - After a long trip on the road the Juniors took to the ice at the Verdun Auditorium for the first time in three weeks, facing off against the Halifax Mooseheads.
The first period saw a lone goal by Moosehead Gabriel Desjardins, good for his 7th of the season, with the Juniors were unable to generate any offence.
To begin the second period, the Juniors found themselves looking for their first goal of the game. Unable to convert on an early power play opportunity in the second, the Juniors gave up a second goal of the night, with Luke Adam in the penalty box. Alexis Piette tipped in Pascal Amyot's point shot. The Juniors would eventually get themselves on the board with Nick Layton converting on a Luke Adam pass. It was Layton's 21st and now leads the team in goals. The Mooseheads would restore their two goal lead only seconds later, as Jan Stransky beat Jean-Francois Bérubé. Nick Layton brought his team within one for a second time tonight, scoring his 22nd goal, while Angelo Esposito tied the game at 3-3 moments later.
With the teams tied, entering the final frame, Halifax restored their lead at 15:18 on a power play goal by Gerrad Grant, to bring the score to 4-3, which would end up being the final score in the Juniors loss.
The Juniors play again Friday night against Val-d'Or at 7:30pm, and again Sunday against Baie Comeau at 4:30pm both at home at the Verdun Auditorium.
