Long night with a good ending, 'Dogs 5-2 over Trenton in 14

Sea Dogs with a 3-run 14th inning, bullpen tosses eight scoreless

Trenton, N.J. - T he Portland Sea Dogs (19-18) scored three runs in the top of the 14th inning and defeated the Trenton Thunder (25-15), 5-2 in a 14-inning marathon on Saturday night at Arm & Hammer Park. With the win, the Sea Dogs force a rubber-game on Sunday afternoon.

Heiker Meneses snapped a 2-2 tie, drawing a bases-loaded walk against Caleb Frare (L, 0-2), earning the game-winning RBI. Danny Mars followed with an RBI single and Josh Tobias capped off the rally with a sacrifice fly.

Josh Smith (1-0) highlighted Portland's bullpen, tossing three scoreless innings to earn his first win in the Red Sox system. Jake Cosart worked around a two-out walk in the 14th to secure his first Double-A save. The Sea Dogs 'pen worked eight scoreless innings on just two hits.

Both teams scored single runs in the second and sixth innings. Mike Olt doubled in the second and scored on a run-scoring single from Jordan Procyshen. Trenton responded to tie the game on an RBI single from Abiatal Avelino. In the sixth, Mars tripled and scored on a sac-fly by Rafael Devers.

Kevin McAvoy had a strong outing for Portland, giving up eight hits and two runs. In the sixth, Avelino tied the game with a bases-loaded single. With nobody out, McAvoy got out of the inning without allowing further damage.

Trenton starter Brady Lail tossed seven inning on two runs and relievers Caleb Coshow and J.P. Feyereisen each pitched three scoreless.

The Sea Dogs and Trenton Thunder complete their 3-game series on Sunday afternoon with a 1:00 PM first pitch from Arm & Hammer Park . RHP Teddy Stankiewicz (1-1, 3.77) makes his eighth start of the season for Portland. RHP Yefry Ramirez (5-0, 3.23) makes his eighth start for Trenton.
