Saint John Sea Dogs News Release
SAINT JOHN, N.B. - The Saint John Sea Dogs outlasted a tenacious Baie-Comeau Drakkar team for a 3-2 win Friday in the first of three straight road games.
Steven Anthony broke a 2-2 tie late in the third period, and also had an assist, while Mike Thomas and Danick Gauthier scored singles. Zack Phillips added two assists, and Jacob DeSerres made 22 saves for the win.
Raphael Bussieres and Jean-Philippe Caron scored for Baie-Comeau, while Maxim Lamarche had two assists. Jason Missiaen made 29 saves in a losing cause.
Sea Dogs defenseman Nathan Beaulieu, and forwards Jonathan Huberdeau and Tomas Jurco sat out the game, taking a breather after shining in Wednesday's Home Hardware CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game.
The one player from the Top Prospects Game who did get in the lineup - Zack Phillips, was involved in the first goal of the night, setting up Mike Thomas for his 12th of the year at 6:34 of the first period. Anthony picked up the other assist on the passing play.
Bussieres got credit for the equalizer at 4:32 of the second, on a pinball power-play goal that deflected off of him. Baie-Comeau went up 2-1 at 12:25 on Caron's goal, which was allowed after a video review.
Danick Gauthier made it 2-2 in the final minute of the second, banging in Ryan Tesink's rebound with 53 seconds left in the frame. Alexandre Beauregard picked up the other assist on the goal, Gauthier's sixth.
The Sea Dogs upped the intensity as they pushed for the go-ahead marker in the third period, outshooting the Drakkar 13-9 in the final frame. Finally, with 3:21 to go, Anthony took advantage of a Baie-Comeau turnover and fired his 18th of the year past Missiaen to lift the Sea Dogs to victory. Phillips and Gabriel Bourret were awarded assists.
The Dogs are back in action Saturday against the Chicoutimi Sagueneens, a 5 p.m. puck drop, and wrap up their road trip with a 4 p.m. start in Quebec against the Remparts.
