Saint John Sea Dogs News Release
SAINT JOHN, NB --- Saint John Sea Dogs Head Coach/General Manager Jacques Beaulieu announced today that three roster moves have been made which decrease the size of the team's active roster from 28 to 25 players.
The Sea Dogs have designated forward Andrew Langan and defenseman Dillen Theriault for assignment with the Dieppe Commandos (MJAHL), while goaltender Troy Passingham has been granted his unconditional release. It is unknown whether Passingham will report for duty with an MJAHL team or return to his home province of Ontario to pursue his options there.
Langan, 17, appeared in three games for the Sea Dogs earlier this month, registering five shots on goal in addition to a -1 rating. Theriault, 18, saw action in four games for Saint John after being acquired from Shawinigan in a September 2 trade that sent a conditional draft pick to the Cataractes. The Fredericton, NB native registered a -1 rating to go along with 8 PIM and 7 SOG during his early-season tenure with the Sea Dogs. Both Langan and Theriault skated with Dieppe last season when the team was known as the Moncton Beavers.
Passingham, 17, played in two games for the Sea Dogs last season, registering a 1-1 record to go along with a 3.02 G.A.A. and a 0.897 SV%. The 6'4", 200 lb. net minder did not log any time between the pipes for Saint John in the opening weeks of the 2008-2009 season. A native of Mississauga, ON, Passingham's Junior 'A' rights are currently owned by the Weeks Crushers.
The Sea Dogs host the Shawinigan Cataractes on Thursday night at Harbour Station in the finale of a home-and-home series with the TELUS Central Division squad. Saint John suffered a hard-fought 2-1 loss at the hands of Shawinigan yesterday afternoon at Jacques Plante Arena in a game in which all-time leading scorer Chris DiDomenico registered his first goal of the season.
