Wildcats set new franchise record

The Moncton Wildcats have set a new franchise record for best start to a season. The previous record was set in the 2005-2006 year with a 5-0 start. The win against the Halifax Mooseheads Sunday afternoon let the 2008-2009 Wildcats mark the history books.

The Moncton Wildcats return to the cage to face the Shawinigan Cataractes Friday night. They then challenge the Saint John Sea Dogs Sunday. The Wildcats are yet to face the Cataractes this season and are 1-0 with the Sea Dogs. Scott Brannon, Matt Eagles and Ted Stephens lead the Wildcats in scoring with 9, 9 and 8 points respectively so far this year.

GAME NOTES:

A scoreless first period gave way to a 3-0 win for the Wildcats Friday night in Maine.

Brandon Gormley scored Moncton's fist goal on foreign soil as a powerplay goal at 6:35 of the second. Lessard and Eagles gave the assists. Pierre-Marc Lessard gave Moncton a two-goal lead at 7:53 on a power play assisted by Barberio and Cameron.

Daniel Petterson finished the scoring for the night at 1:46 of the third with an unassisted goal.

Lewiston out-shot Moncton 28-22, but the Lewiston media gave all three stars to Moncton players. Nicola Riopel was named first star, Pierre-Marc Lessard the second and Matt Eagles the third.

Sunday September 28th vs Halifax Halifax Metro Centre 2:00PM

The Moncton Wildcats have a new franchise record. The Wildcats improved to 6-0 the best start to a season in the hockey club's history.

Matt Brown started the scoring at 8:38 of the first on an assist from Brannon. Gormley and Cameron set Mark Barberio up for a power play goal at 17:14 to give the Wildcats a 2-0 lead going into the second period.

Graham Bona put Halifax on the scoreboard with an unassisted goal at 7:42 of the second. Matt Brown scored his second goal of the game on an assist from Bissonnette at 11:34 of the second.

Justin Pender added Halifax's last goal of the game at 14:44 of the third from McDonald and Piette as a power play goal. Brown set Matt Eagles up for the final goal of the game at 18:33.

Moncton out-shot Halifax 28-16. The three stars of the game were Matt Brown, Justin Pender and Matthew Bissonnette.

The Wildcats look to stretch their record Friday night as they return home to the Cage to take on the Cataractes. The puck drops at 7pm and your Moncton Wildcats will be Ready to go Wild.

The Moncton Wildcats will battle against the Shawinigan Cataractes Friday at the Moncton Coliseum. The Cataractes are 2nd in the Telus Central Division with 10 points. Dave Labrecque leads the Cataractes with 5 goals, 9 assists and 14 points in 7 games so far this season.

Sunday October 5th vs Saint John Moncton Coliseum 4:00PM

The Moncton Wildcats will face the Saint John Sea Dogs . The Sea Dogs are currently 4 th in the Atlantic Division with 4 points. Keven Guérette-Charland leads the Sea Dogs with 7 points in 7 games so far this season.
