The Saint John Sea Dogs (29-15-1-3) extended their win streak to eight in a thrilling overtime win against the Charlottetown Islanders (32-9-6-0) at TD Station on Friday night. Goals came fast for the Sea Dogs, after trailing against the top team in the league for the majority of the game, goals from Jérémie Poirier, Philippe Daoust, and Brady Burns in the third period, followed by the overtime winner from newly named captain Vincent Sévigny propelled the Sea Dogs over the Islanders in the 4-3 win at home.

Nikolas Hurtubise got the start in net for the Sea Dogs making 28 saves on the 31 shots he faced in the win. Francesco Lapenna put up a strong performance in net for Charlottetown, making 35 saves on 39 Sea Dogs shots.

The first period was a back and forth affair, with both teams putting pressure on the netminders. A double minor to Keiran Gallant on Charlottetown at 9:36, interference call against Riley Bezeau at 14:08, and tripping penalty to Noah Laaouan at 18:21 gave both teams' power plays the opportunity to come out, but they were denied at both ends and went into the second frame scoreless.

Shots after the first were 12-10 for Saint John.

Charlottetown's leading scorer Patrick Guay hit the back of the net with the first goal of the night 2:52 into the period. The Islanders took a 2-0 lead a few minutes later when Keiran Gallant added a goal of his own at 8:13.

Two penalties to the visiting team, Jarrett Todd at 11:24 and Keiran Gallant 25 seconds later, sent the Sea Dogs to an extended 5-on-3 advantage. Saint John was able to generate some chances, but both penalties were killed off and the Islanders maintained their lead going into the final period.

Shots after the second were 24-20 for Saint John.

A hooking call against Oscar Plandowski at 3:55 sent the Sea Dogs power play unit out early in the third and this time they were successful. A slap shot from Flames prospect Jérémie Poirier on the man advantage cut the Islanders lead to one.

The final five minutes of the period were full of energy as the goals came fast. A high-sticking call sent Connor Trenholm to the box, but a minute into the penalty, William Dufour and Philippe Daoust connected and tied the game up shorthanded.

Two minutes later, Brady Burns added one of his own, firing a shot to the back of the net to give the Sea Dogs their first lead of the night.

Charlottetown pulled their netminder and with 33 seconds remaining in the game, tied the game up off a goal from Brett Budgell and sent the game to overtime.

51 seconds into overtime, Vincent Sévigny scored his first since being named captain of the team and got the Sea Dogs their eighth straight win.

Final shots were 39-31 for Saint John.
