Saint John Sea Dogs News Release
The Saint John Sea Dogs (31-15-1-3) extended their win streak to ten games with their win against the Moncton Wildcats (21-21-5-1) in Moncton in a Tuesday night matchup. The 6-2 win included two goals from Ryan Francis, and one goal each from Nathan Drapeau, Vincent Sévigny, Nick Blagden, and Brady Burns.
Nikolas Hurtubise got the start for Saint John, making 23 stops on 25 shots in the weeknight win. Vincent Filion was in the crease for Moncton, facing 39 shots and stopping 34.
The first period was a fast-paced back and forth affair. Saint John received two opportunities on the power play after Charles-Antoine Pilote was sent off for slashing and Jaxon Bellamy received a cross-checking penalty midway through the period. An interference penalty to Raivis Kristians Ansons sent the Sea Dogs onto a penalty kill of their own at 15:55.
All three penalties were successfully killed and it looked like the New Brunswick rivals would go into the second frame scoreless, until Ryan Francis scored the first goal of the night with 15 seconds remaining on the clock to put the Sea Dogs up 1-0.
Shots after the first were 9-7 for Saint John.
Saint John scored two early to take a 3-0 lead, both from the defence. First, Vincent Sévigny fired a shot from the faceoff circle at 2:44. Then, three minutes later, Nathan Drapeau added one of his own, his third of the season, ripping a shot top shelf.
Moncton scored their first of the night at 16:39 and the Sea Dogs went into the final period up 3-1.
Shots after the second were 26-20 for Saint John.
A match penalty for high sticking was called against Moncton's Joachim Matulu at 7:34, giving Saint John a five minute power play. Ryan Francis scored his second of the night with the extra attacker, picking up the puck on the open side of the net and firing it at 10:26.
The Wildcats got their chance on the power play at 13:21, when William Villeneuve was sent off for holding. They also scored, Mathis Cloutier finding the back of the net at 14:31 and making it 4-2.
Moncton pulled their netminder and former Wildcat Nick Blagden scored his first as a Sea Dog on the open net at 18:32. Brady Burns sealed the deal on the win with Saint John's sixth goal of the night with 17 seconds remaining in the game. William Dufour got an assist on Burns' goal, extending his points streak to 11 games.
Final shots were 40-25 for Saint John.
