BOUCHERVILLE, QC, April 5, 2007 - The Saint John Sea Dogs will have the first pick overall in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) entry draft this coming June.
The Sea Dogs won the lottery draw with the Drummondville Voltigeurs early this afternoon, giving them first choice among players graduating from the Major Midget and College Prep ranks in Atlantic Canada, Quebec and the U.S. New England States.
The 2007 QMJHL entry draft will be held June 2 in Drummondville, QC.
Sea Dogs general manager and head coach Jacques Beaulieu said he's very happy to have the first pick.
"It's a great opportunity to get the best player in the draft," he said. "We can now control our own destiny."
This represents the third time the Sea Dogs have won the QMJHL draft lottery. Alex Grant and Yann Sauvé are former first overall picks.
In addition to the first overall pick in the QMJHL entry draft, the Sea Dogs will select third in the 2007 Canadian Hockey League's (CHL) import draft. That draft will occur on June 27.
