SAINT JOHN, NB --- The Saint John Sea Dogs improved to 20-3-0-2 on the season on Friday night, defeating the Acadie-Bathurst Titan by a score of 6-3 in front of 3.546 fans at Harbour Station.

Zack Phillips (2), Stephen MacAulay, Tomas Jurco, Danick Gauthier, and Nathan Beaulieu all found the back of the net for Saint John in their 12th home victory of the year, while goaltender Jacob DeSerres made 20 saves in improving to 7-1 on his overage campaign. At the other end of the ice, Olivier Roy (20 saves) suffered his eighth defeat of the season between the pipes for Acadie-Bathurst, while Daniel Tanel, Vincent Arseneau, and Cristophe Losier scored goals in a losing effort.

The visitors struck first on Friday as a streaking Daniel Tanel wired a high wrist shot past DeSerres' blocker in the second minute of play. Gabriel Lévesque and Olivier Hotte both picked up assists on the early-match marker. A long-range wrist shot off the stick of veteran defenseman Nathan Beaulieu then tied the game up at one apiece at the 16:30 mark of the opening frame.

Import winger Tomas Jurco gave the Sea Dogs their first lead of the night 2:03 into the second period, sneaking a low backhander past Roy as he was being wrestled to the ice by a Titan defender. St. Louis Blues prospect Stephen MacAulay was awarded a penalty shot a moment later, but his attempt was thwarted by Acadie-Bathurst's star goaltender as the score remained 2-1 in Saint John's favour for the time being.

The Titan tied things up at two apiece midway through the middle frame, with a crease-hovering Christophe Losier banging home a loose puck to make the fourth goal of his season of the power play variety. Sophomore sniper Zack Phillips then put the hosts up 3-2 on a brilliant individual effort, stealing the puck from Sébastien Payette deep in Acadie-Bathurst territory and proceeding to rifle a shot past Roy's glove hand to improve his 2010-11 goals total to 16.

Phillips struck again in the dying seconds of the stanza, blasting home another wrist shot to give his team a 4-2 lead as Friday's intraprovincial showdown reached the forty minute mark.

The Titan pulled back to within immediate striking distance of their opponents 3:29 into period number three, with 18-year-old forward Vincent Arseneau netting a man-up marker on a well-placed shot that beat DeSerres high. Rugged winger Danick Gauthier restored the Sea Dogs' two-goal advantage three-and-a-half minutes later, knocking home a rebound produced by a Pierre Durepos point shot to pick up his fourth of the year.

Stephen MacAulay then sealed the deal for the home team, firing his eighth goal of the season into an empty net with 1:08 remaining in regulation to make the final score Sea Dogs 6 - Titan 3.

Up next for the Port City's major junior squad is a Sunday afternoon showdown with the Halifax Mooseheads at Harbour Station. The puck drops at 4pm as Saint John looks to pick up their 21st victory of 2010-11 on home ice.
