Saint John Sea Dogs News Release
The Saint John Sea Dogs have been awarded the second overall pick in the 2018 Quebec Major Junior Hockey League Entry Draft.
The QMJHL held its annual draft lottery on Thursday night at TVA studios in Montreal. Five teams were involved in this year's draw: the Sea Dogs, Shawinigan Cataractes, Charlottetown Islanders, Chicoutimi Sagueneens and Sherbrooke Phoenix.
The Sagueneens won the draw and will select first overall. The Sea Dogs will pick second followed by the Cataractes, Islanders and Phoenix.
This will be the seventh time in team history that Saint John owns a top three pick. They have never selected second overall, picking first five times and third once.
This was the sixth time in team history that Saint John had been entered into the draft lottery - but the first time the Sea Dogs had been involved in the five-team format, which began last year. Saint John won the two-team draw in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2014 and 2015.
The Sea Dogs also own the eighth overall pick in this year's Draft, which was acquired in a mid-season trade.
The 2018 QMJHL Entry Draft takes place on Saturday, June 2 in Shawinigan, Que.
