Portland, Maine- The Finance Authority of Maine (FAME) honored the Portland Sea Dogs by presenting the Sea Dogs with the 2005 "Education at Work for Maine" award. The Summer Reading Program encourages children to put the remote control down during the summer and pick-up a book. The "Adopt-a-Sea Dog" program brings players into the classroom and the classroom into the ballpark. Players talk about the importance of education and working hard to accomplish goals. In exchange the students attend a game in which they become actively involved by singing the National Anthem, throwing out the first-pitch, and other activities.

The Sea Dogs have two scholarship programs in which six students are selected for each season. The Sea Dogs internship program has developed countless baseball executives. In addition, the Sea Dogs front office staff can often be found hosting a job shadow student or speaking at a career day.
