Sea Dogs Acquire Galiev, Jurko at CHL Import Draft

SAINT JOHN, NB --- The 2009 Canadian Hockey League Import Draft was held today, with the Saint John Sea Dogs acquiring a pair of talented European players with the first and fourth overall selections.  With the first pick of the draft, Saint John selected Russian-born forward Stanislav Galiev, 17. The 6'1", 177 lb. winger skated with the Indiana Ice of the United States Hockey League last season, tallying 29G-35A-64P in 60 games played.  Three picks later, the Sea Dogs drafted Slovakian forward Tomas Jurko. The 5'9", 150 lb. winger led his junior team, HC Košice of Slovnaft Extraliga, in scoring last season with 24G-30A-54P in 51 games played. The 16-year old also appeared with Team Slovakia at the 2009 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge in Port Alberni, BC, recording 3G-4A-7P in five games played for the ninth-place-finishers at the ten-team event.  For a full list of players selected on Tuesday, visit http://chl.ca/importDraft.php#. Season tickets to the Sea Dogs' 2009-10 campaign are on sale now.
