Sea Dawgs take a bite out of Detroit

Wilmington, NC- Alex Harper lead five Wilmington Sea Dawgs in double figures with 24, and Wilmington was able to hold off a late run from Detroit in their 101-95, come from behind victory over Detroit.

Detroit shot out to a 23-16 lead in the first, but Wilmington went on a 16-0 run lead by a three ball from Alex Harper and a three point play from Brian Leggett, which gave Wilmington the lead for the first time. After one the Sea Dawgs held a seven point lead.

In the second, the Sea Dawgs would stretch the lead to as many as 11 on a Cedric McGinnis dunk, but Detroit would claw back to cut the lead to seven on a Randy Gill outside bomb and a Stanes Bufford short jumper. Wilmington would get two from Jim Jones and Wilmington went into the half up ten.

Wilmington would come out firing in the third quarter going on an 8-0 run to start the half. Kris Clark was good from three and then nailed another long jumper before Stanes Bufford hit from ten to cut the lead back to 14.

In the fourth, the Panthers would hang around. To start the quarter, Walter Waters hit a mid-range jumper and David Myers hit from the outside to make it a ten point game. After trading hoops, the Panthers would go on another run, this one 7-0 to make it 94-92 but that was as close as the Panthers would get. Jim Jones hit a deep three with 1:26 to go, and the Sea Dawgs hit their free throws down the stretch, and the Sea Dawgs were able to pull out the victory.

Notes: With the victory, Wilmington moves to within a game of the wild card spot. Stanes Bufford lead Detroit with 26.
