Wilmington Sea Dawgs News Release

Wilmington, NC - The Wilmington Sea Dawgs capture their first home win of the season, 108-95, in a high-flying, fast paced game against the Johnston County Nighthawks in Sunday night Tobacco Road Basketball League action at Blizzard Athletics.

Movement was the word for the first quarter, as the clubs raced up and down the court and passed the ball with abandon, including some miscues and intercepted passes. However strong inside play by the Dawgs and great outside shooting by Bret Blizzard had Wilmington leading Johnston County 34-19 at the break.

The second quarter started with an aerial assault from both clubs, including three pointers by Johnston County's Xavier Bethea and Wilmington's Chris Clark. The Nighthawks then took their game inside, but the Sea Dawgs capitalized on Johnston County turnovers and ended the quarter with basically the same lead, 64-50.

Johnston County came out aggressively to start the third quarter, Bethea driving inside on offense and R.D Dowdy crashing the boards on defense, cutting the Sea Dawg lead down to eight at one point, but effective exploitation of Nighthawk miscues allowed Wilmington finish the quarter ahead 84-73.

The Nighthawks continued to play the passing lanes forcefully and continued to drive, cutting the Sea Dawg margin down to as few as five early in the quarter. But the Sea Dawgs forced the tempo up and the Johnston County squad, playing with just seven guys, finally wore out.

Wilmington's next home game will be Sunday, May 26th at 5:00 PM at Blizzard Athletics, as the Sea Dawgs host Team HoopForLyfe.
