Top TRBL East Teams Meet, Cary Prevails

Cary, NC: The top two teams in the TRBL East met in Cary on Sunday evening with a potential number one seed on the line in the TRBL playoffs. Big Texas (Jacksonville, NC) entered the game with a single blemish on its record, a tough road loss at Fayetteville. The Cary Invasion was still perfect on the season at 8-0 after a road win at Greensboro the night before.
Big Texas came ready to play, hitting nearly all of its early shots and pressuring the home team that was most accustomed to applying the pressure. The Invasion was heading in the opposite direction, missing a series of open jump shots, lay ups, and dunks. The visitors jumped out to an early 8 point lead. With the lid on the bucket for its outside shooters, Cary pushed the ball inside to create easier shots through the back half of the first quarter. The home team clawed its way back in to a 22-22 tie after one quarter.
The second quarter proved to be the deciding period. Cary found its stride and exploded for 44 points, building a lead of as many as 25 in the quarter. A Big Texas run at the end of the quarter closed the gap to a 66-52 score at halftime. The teams played the second half to draw, with the home team never pushing the lead much beyond 20 points and with Big Texas unable to cut it to under ten. The final score was Cary 133, Big Texas 121. With the win Cary clinches a spot in the TRBL playoffs.
Marsheree Neely (ODU) led eight Cary players in double figures with 22 points. Brian West had a game high 29 points for Big Texas. Cary (9-0) plays next on May 26th at Carolina. Big Texas (5-2) next hosts Johnston County on May 26th.
