Cary Outruns Carolina, Secures Top Seed in TRBL East

May 27, 2013 - Tobacco Road Basketball League (TRBL) - Cary Invasion News Release

Lumberton, NC: The Cary Invasion made the trip to Lumberton on Sunday night to try to secure the top seed in the TRBL East for the upcoming TRBL playoffs. To greet the visitors, the Carolina Gladiators brought a lively crowd, the league's most entertaining announcer, crowd-pleasing dancers, and a team that looked to be among the best in the league for the first quarter. In that first quarter, the Gladiators played tight defense and moved the ball well against the much bigger Invasion squad. The home team capitalized by hitting open jump shots and contesting every shot the Cary team put up. The teams played to a draw in the first quarter, but Invasion guards Corey Evans and Marsheree Neely caught fire in the second, pushing the Cary lead to 20-plus points at the half.

The visitors did not let up in the third quarter. Led by perennial minor league All Star, former Harlem Globetrotter, and former Washington Wizard Charles Ward, Cary used its size to further extend the lead and put the game out of reach. With the game already decided, the fourth quarter turned into an offensive exhibition by both teams that featured acrobatic dunks and long shots. Cary won the game with a team record of total points, 164-127. With the win, Cary (10-0) secures the top seed the TRBL East for the TRBL playoffs that start June 15th in Fayetteville.
