Vermont falls to Manchester

Manchester, NH - For the first time in franchise history, the Vermont Frost Heaves have lost 3 games in a row as they fall to the Manchester Millrats 102-89 this afternoon. After a tough loss to Rochester at home yesterday, Vermont traveled to Manchester for today's showdown with the Millrats.

In the 1st quarter an Anthony Kyle with 3-point basket with 3 minutes left, cut Manchester's lead down to 4 points, but 4 points by Aaron Spears and a couple of free throws by Desmond Ferguson gave Manchester a 24-16 lead to end the 1st quarter. Manchester built a 15-point lead during the 2nd quarter and the 1st half ended with Manchester holding a 46-35 lead.

Benson Callier started off the 3rd quarter by draining two 3's to bring Vermont to within 5 points, but Manchester went on 9 point run and led by as much as 21 in the 3rd quarter. Vermont never gave up and in the 4th quarter, went on a 22-5 run to cut Manchester's lead to 4 points with 4:07 left in the game. Unfortunately for Vermont they never got any closer and Manchester held on for the win.

Vermont was lead in scoring by Greg Plummer with 21 points followed by Benson Callier with 20. Vermont outrebounded Manchester 42 - 35 but only shot 40% from the floor.

Vermont hits the road again for a rematch with Halifax in Halifax next Friday night. They then return home for their first Champlain Cup matchup with the Quebec Kebs in Burlington on Sunday February 22, 2009. Vermont's record falls to 7-6 overall for the season and they still maintain a hold on second place in the PBL Atlantic Division.
