February 6, 2009 - Premier Basketball League (PBL)
Wilmington Sea Dawgs News Release

Kris Clark hit for a game high 36, including a jumper with nine seconds to go, and Wilmington was able to shut the league's leading scorer in A.J. Millien to only two in the first half and 21 for the game, as the Sea Dawgs just get by Augusta 110-109.

Wilmington held a four point lead after one, but then Augusta exploded in the second. At the 7:00 mark of the second quarter, the Groove went on a 7-0 run on a three point play by Donielle Davis and jumpers by Kedrick Johnson and Kenneth Curtis as the Groove took a one point lead. After trading baskets, Augusta went on another run, this one a 13-2 spurt in the last 2:28 on a three point play by Johnson and seven from Davis. Augusta would go into the break leading by 13 at 61-48. The lead was despite the league's leading scorer in A.J. Millien being held to only two points after 24 minutes.

In the third, Wilmington started chipping away at the lead. After a Demitrius Howard three ball, Wilmington went on an 8-0 run, and turned up the defense, outscoring the Groove 36-22 in the quarter and after a Clark three with seven seconds to go in the stanza were down only 83-82 after three and we had a ballgame.

Fast forward to the fourth where with 58 seconds to go in regulation, Augusta lead 106-105 on a pair of Millien free throws. Then, with 35 seconds to go, Cedric McGinnis nailed a three to make it a two point lead for Wilmington, but Howard nailed another three with 16 seconds to go to give Augusta a two point lead. Wilmington elected not to call time out and Clark would then hit a 12 footer in what turned out to be the game winner.

Notes: Wilmington is now 5-4 while Augusta drops to 5-3. The Groove shot 56.1% from the field but scored only nine points off turnovers. The 36 points for Clark was his season high. The teams combined to put up 42 three pointers. With his 21 points, A.J. Millien still leads the PBL in scoring at 32.0 a game which is 6.6 points ahead of Mid-Michigan's Odgra Bobo.
