Battle Creek Knights News Release
Kenny Langhorne lead seven Battle Creek Knights in double figures with 19, and the Knights were able to hold off a pesky Chicago Throwbacks squad in their 117-112 victory.
The game was tight after one with Battle Creek leading by only one at the intermission. The lead could have been much more if not for Stanley Thomas. Thomas hit for 11 of his 21 first half points in the quarter on a pair of three balls and a pair of jumpers just inside the arc.
In the second, Battle Creek started to pull away a bit leading by nine after two. The Knights went on a 11-2 run to take an eight point lead on a three by Chris Gaines, a pair of jumpers and two free throws by Allen White, and a nice layin by Frank Phillips. The Knights would go into the break leading by nine. Scoring was balanced for Battle Creek with 11 of 12 players scoring for Battle Creek lead by Jason Arbet's nine.
In the third, Battle Creek opened up a 12 point lead on a pair of Kenny Langhorne free throws, but then Chicago started to chip away at the lead going on a quick 6-0 run. Michael Herman hit a pair of jumpers and Thomas hit another one before Allen White nailed a 24 footer to break the run. The Throwbacks would go on another quick 5-0 run, outscoring the Knights by 12 in the period and lead by three after three.
In the fourth, Battle Creek showed why they remain unbeaten on the year eliminating the three point deficit and going on a mid-quarter 7-0 run on a three and two free throws by Colecio Buie, and a pair of free throws by Jason Arbet. Chicago would not go away though as with 4:17 to go an Imari Sawyer jumper gave the Throwbacks a one point lead. Battle Creek took the lead again on a Kenny Langhorne jumper, but then Chicago punched back on a Sawyer free throw and a jumper by Michael Herman to take the lead by one. This would be the last lead of the game for the Throwbacks as the Knights went on a 9-2 run as they remain unbeaten on the year.
