SAINT JOHN - The Cape Breton Screaming Eagles scored two goals in the second and third periods on their way to a 4-0 victory over the Saint John Sea Dogs, Wednesday at Harbour Station.

Brooklyn Kalmikov, Phelix Martineau, Shaun Miller and Ross MacDougall scored for Cape Breton (24-22-5-1) while Mathias Laferriere and Ryan Francis added two assists each.

Goalie Kevin Mandolese turned aside 17 shots for his first QMJHL shutout.

Saint John (12-30-7-2) have lost six straight games.

The Screaming Eagles opened the scoring with a power play goal five-and-a-half minutes into the second period.

Francis fired a low wrister from the high slot that was stopped by goalie Alex D'Orio. The rebound went to Kalmikov off the right side of the crease where the rookie forward deposited it into an open net.

It became a 2-0 game seven minutes later when Martineau took a pass on the right side of the slot and crushed a slap shot over D'Orio's blocker.

The Sea Dogs' best chances of the period came courtesy of forward Robbie Burt.

The Ontario-native ripped a wrist shot off the crossbar halfway through the frame and narrowly missed the top corner to the glove side of Mandolese with a quick snap shot on a breakaway chance.

Miller added to the Cape Breton lead two minutes into the third, finishing off a pretty passing play by taking a backdoor feed off the left side of crease and whipping it into an open net.

MacDougall wrapped up the scoring with under seven minutes left.

The St. Stephen product stepped into the right circle and rifled a heavy wrist shot over the left shoulder of D'Orio.

D'Orio made 32 stops in a losing cause.

Martineau's goal made him first star while Laferriere snared second star with two assists. Francis was named third star with two assists. Paid attendance was 3,450.

The Sea Dogs' next game is Friday, February 9th, at 7 p.m. against the Halifax Mooseheads at Harbour Station. Tickets are available at the Harbour Station Box Office and online.
