
Scrappers Split a Pair in Batavia

Batavia, NY-The Mahoning Valley Scrappers and Batavia Muckdogs split a double header on Wednesday night at Dwyer Stadium in Batavia. In game one the Scrappers would ride a five run first inning to a 10-3 win. In game two, the Muckdogs would get two runs without a hit in the sixth inning to hold on for a 5-3 win.
In game one the first seven batters all reached base for the Scrappers with the first five scoring. Andrew Calica, Gavin Collins, Emmanuel Tapia and Mitch Longo all drove in a run as the Scrappers jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first.
The Scrappers would keep scoring in the second inning with an RBI double from Silento Sayles and an RBI single from Tapia.
Logan Ice would put the icing on the cake in the fifth inning when he blasted a two run homerun, his second of the season, for a 10-1 lead.
In game two the Muckdogs would take the first inning lead thanks to a passed ball by Scrappers catcher Gian Paul Gonzalez.
After Batavia pushed the lead out to 3-0, the Scrappers would cut the deficit to just a run thanks to a Nate Winfrey two run homerun in the top of the fourth inning.
The Scrappers tied the game in the top of the fifth inning. Jonathan Laureano singled and advanced to second on a fielding error to start the inning. He would come in to score on a two out RBI single from Todd Isaacs.
In the bottom of the sixth inning the Muckdogs would score the final two runs of the game without getting a hit. A fielder's choice and a squeeze bunt would get runs on the board to put Batavia up by the final of 5-3.
Brady Aiken (1-0) earned the game one win in 5.0 innings of work. He allowed one earned run on three hits. Aiken walked three and struck out six. The game two loss went to Randy Valladares (1-2) in relief. He went 2.2 innings and allowed two earned runs on one hit. He walked one and struck out three.
The Scrappers (28-28) and Muckdogs (14-31) continue their series on Thursday night at 7:05. Shane Bieber will start for the Scrappers. The Scrappers return home on Saturday night to face the State College Spikes.
