
Renegades Walk off on Doubledays

The Auburn Doubledays, Single-A Short Season affiliate of the Washington Nationals, lost to the Hudson Valley Renegades, 4-3, on a walk-off wild pitch in the tenth inning on Wednesday night in Wappingers Falls, New York. Outfielder Oliver Ortiz had two hits and an RBI for the Doubledays in the loss.
The Doubledays (22-33) got on the board first in the top of the second inning off Renegades right-hander Eduard Rosillo. With one out, Rosillo hit Paul Panaccione with a pitch to put a runner on first base. Ryan Ripken then reached on a throwing error by Rosillo to put runners on the corners. David Kerian followed with a strikeout for the second out of the inning. With Clayton Brandt batting, Rosillo threw a wild pitch that allowed Panaccione to score, giving the Doubledays a 1-0 lead.
The Renegades (33-22) tied the game and took the lead in the bottom of the third inning. Chris Betts led off the inning with a double. Danny De La Calle then hit a ball to right field. Daniel Johnson misplayed the ball, allowing Betts to score and De La Calle to reach second base on the two-base error as Hudson Valley tied the game at one. Bill Pujols followed with a walk that put runners on first and second. Jake Fraley then grounded into a fielder's choice, in which Pujols was out at second base, but De La Calle moved to third base and Fraley was safe at first. Garrett Whitley followed with a ground out to shortstop Clayton Brandt, but De La Calle scored on the play to give the Renegades a 2-1 advantage.
Auburn regained the lead in the fifth inning. Brandt and Dalton Dulin both walked to begin the inning. Perkins then laid down a sacrifice bunt to move the runners to second and third. Johnson followed with a ground out to shortstop that scored Brandt and advanced Dulin to third base as the Doubledays tied the game at two. Oliver Ortiz followed with a single to right field that scored Dulin to give Auburn back the lead, 3-2.
Hudson Valley tied the game in the seventh inning off Auburn right-hander Steven Fuentes. With two outs, Pujols singled to center field. With Fraley batting, Fuentes made an errant throw to first base on a pickoff attempt. The ball rolled to right field, which allowed Pujols to score all the way from first, tying the game at three.
The Renegades walked off in the tenth inning. Whitley led off the inning with a double down the right-field line. Miles Mastrobuoni then reached on a bunt single down the third-base line to put runners on first and third base with no outs. With Jim Haley batting, Mastrobuoni advanced to second base on defensive indifference. Haley followed with a pop out to first base for the first out of the inning. With Nate Lowe batting, a wild pitch allowed Whitley to score from third base and gave Hudson Valley a 4-3 win.
The Doubledays and the Renegades will play the second game of a three-game series on Thursday night. Left-hander Yonathan Ramirez will pitch for Auburn. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. from Dutchess Stadium in Hudson Valley.
