Trenton Thunder News Release

(Trenton, NJ) - The RailRiders' bullpen has been perhaps their biggest strength as they've raced to the top of the Northeast Division. In Saturday's comeback win, the Bisons were unable to score after taking a 4-0 lead through two innings. That drought extended into Sunday's finale, and the RailRiders used a six run top of the fourth to pull away 8-0 to win the series and send the Herd back to .500. After winning the matinee in front of a crowd of 3,431 at Trenton Thunder Ballpark, the RailRiders made it seven wins in ten games against the Bisons with one series remaining much later in the season.

In his third start, Anthony Kay racked up five strikeouts early while working around singles in the first and second. He then fanned Ryan LaMarre to end the third before a busy fourth in which the RailRiders batted around to seize control of the day. Their starter, Nick Nelson, worked a season-high three-and-two-thirds and allowed just two hits and a walk while whiffing three.

Kay fooled Hoy Park for the second time with his seventh strikeout to open the third, but allowed Trey Amburgey to extend his hitting streak to 18 straight with a one-out double. Estevan Florial broke the scoreless tie with a single into right, and after a walk to Robinson Chirinos, Derek Dietrich hit an opposite field home run to left for a 4-0 lead. Another walk and a groundout turned it over to the top of the lineup, and Yankees rehabber Luke Voit chased Kay (0-1) with a double to make it 5-0. Connor Overton's afternoon of long relief started with a run scoring double from LaMarre that made it 6-0, but the righthander spun three-plus innings while striking out five to lower his earned run average to 0.73.

Richard Ureña provided two of the seven hits with a fourth inning triple and a ninth inning single. Elsewhere, there were singles from Christian Colon, Kevin Smith, Rodrigo Vigil, Nash Knight, and Logan Warmoth as the Herd were blanked for the second time this season. Jackson McClelland tossed a 1-2-3 eighth and Kirby Snead surrendered his first home run when LaMarre launched a two-run shot to left in the ninth for his fourth hit of the afternoon.

The Bisons leave town for a 12-game roadtrip starting on Tuesday, June 15 against the Rochester Red Wings. The team will return home at the end of the month for a six-game series with the Lehigh Valley IronPigs beginning on Tuesday, June 29.
