Scram triples lead to the Whitecaps third straight win

COMSTOCK PARK - Deik Scram went 3-for-4 with two triples, a double and three runs scored to lead the Whitecaps to a 5-1 win over Burlington. It was the third win in a row for West Michigan, which has improved to 15-12 and is three games over .500 for the first time this season.

Scram tripled in the first to drive in Gorkys Hernandez who lead off and reached base on an error. The hit also extended Scram hitting streak to ten games. Ryan Strieby drove in Scram on a sacrifice fly for a 2-0 West Michigan advantage after one inning.

Strieby and Santo De Leon each had RBI singles in the third to double the lead to 4-0. De Leon extended his hitting streak to nine games. On Saturday, Strieby went 2-for-2 with two RBI and is now 5-for-6 in the series with a home run, five RBI and four runs scored.

Angel Castro pitched seven innings for the Whitecaps. He picked up the win to improve to 3-1. Castro allowed just one run on five hits and two walks.

Jeff Gerbe threw a scoreless inning of relief for West Michigan while Ed Clelland, who left the game with an injury, combined with Randor Bierd to keep the Bees from scoring in the ninth.

Burlington's only run of the game scored when Jeff Bianchi came home on a sacrifice fly by Scott Lucas in the fourth.

Whitecaps History: On Saturday Deik Scram became the 13th player in Whitecaps history hit two triples in one game. The last to do so was Justin Justice on May 9, 2006 against Beloit.
