New Mexico Scorpions News Release

[ RIO RANCHO, N.M.]-The Scorpions were special in their 4-1 stinging of the Killer Bess Wednesday night inside the Santa Ana Star Center. All five of the game's goals were scored with odd man situations.

It took over a period before either team was able to get on the board. Jamie Herrington gave the Scorpions the lead with a rebound power play goal. Four minutes later the Scorpions used another special teams goal to extend their lead.

Ryan McLeod stole the puck in the neutral zone and flew down the ice. He put on the brakes, waited for Konrad Reeder, and pitched a perfect pass to Reeder, who finished the play with a shorthanded goal. It was the team's fifth shorthanded goal this season.

Rio Grande Valley used a shorthanded goal of their own to cut the lead in half. With only 17-seconds remaining in the middle period, Dennis Maxwell slid the puck into the net.

The power play proved to be good for the Scorpions again. Mike Falk picked up a third period power play goal, giving New Mexico two in the game. It was the first time since January 19 that the Scorpions scored multiple power play goals in a game.

Rio Grande Valley pulled their goalie as they were awarded a power play. Shortly after the power play expired, the Scorpions Ryan McLeod controlled the puck, worked it ahead to Herrington who pitched it into the open net to secure the three-goal victory.

The Scorpions will travel to Odessa this Saturday night. Catch the game on 610 The Sports Animal starting at 6 p.m.
