New Mexico Scorpions News Release

[RIO RANCHO, N.M.]-The New Mexico Scorpions are only a few days away form opening training camp and head coach Randy Murphy has rounded out his camp roster with four additions.

Local product Jason Schulz will be in Rio Rancho starting this weekend along with Sam Bowles, John Pace. Also, Tyler Fuller has been acquired from Rio Grande Valley for future considerations.

Schulz lives in New Mexico and played for the University of New Mexico's hockey team the past few season. The Scorpions signed him last season for one game when the injury bug hit the locker room.

Following his game with the Scorps, Columbus, of the SPHL, signed him for the remainder of the season. In 16 games, he scored four points and collected 28 penalty minutes. The defenseman had a good playoff run scoring three points in five games and adding 10 penalty minutes.

Bowles spent the last four seasons playing at Union College (Md.). Last year as a senior, the center was named assistant captain for the Dutchmen. During his collegiate career he was known for his skills on face-offs and his tenacity on the penalty kill. In 100 games he scored 11 points while amassing 52 penalty minutes.

Pace joins the Scorpions after spending the majority of his career in the UHL with Rockford, Quad City and Richmond. The Chicago native has also played with Winston-Salem and Richmond of the SPHL and started last season with Amarillo. In 94 career games the physical defenseman has collected 172 penalty minutes and scored 17 points.

The most familiar name to Scorpions would be Fuller. The defenseman spent 23 games in Rio Grande Valley last season. He also made a stop in Flint during his rookie campaign. The 6-footer appeared in 26 games last season picking up one assist and 35 penalty minutes.
