Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees News Release

HIDALGO, TEXAS --- The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees of the Central Hockey League (CHL) today announced an addition to the team's 2008 Training Camp Roster. Evan Rankin, a graduate of Notre Dame University, has signed with the team after competing in camp with the AHL's Grand Rapids Griffins.

Rankin, a native of Portage, Michigan, spent four seasons at Notre Dame University and was a member of the 2008 team that advanced to the NCAA Championship Game as the fourth-seed team from the West Regional, defeating New Hampshire and Michigan State along the way. The team then upset Michigan with a 5-4 OT win in the National Semifinal before falling to Boston College in the title game. The 6-foot-1, 205-pound forward collected 41 points (20-21-41) over his college career and tacked on 101 PIM in 143 games.

"I'm excited to add another young player who brings experience and energy to the team. Playing in the NCAA National Championship Game is quite an accomplishment. And with him being a Michigan native, I'm sure he was excited to have the opportunity to work out with Grand Rapids, which is Detroit's affiliate."

The Killer Bees open their sixth season at Dodge Arena on October 18 vs. the Rocky Mountain Rage. The first 1000 kids through the doors will receive a Killer Bees jersey courtesy San Juan Pharmacy and KRGV NEWSCHANNEL 5.

Single game tickets for the 2008-09 season, including the team's preseason game vs. Laredo (October 10), are on sale now at all Ticketmaster outlets including the Dodge Arena Box Office. Season tickets are available now by calling 956-843-PUCK (7825).
