Scorpions Have Some New Events Planned For The Season
May 26, 2010 - Golden Baseball League (GBL)
Yuma Scorpions News Release
It's been a good start to the year, with our Scorps finishing the first week of play with a 4-3 record. We split the series with the GBL's defending champs, the Calgary Vipers, then took the series from Edmonton last night with a wild 11-7 win. For those that have missed the start of the year, this team is playing great ball, hustling, hitting and is fun to watch. Today is a well-deserved day off for all - the first day off since the team arrived in town nearly 3 weeks ago.
I wanted to let you know about a couple of upcoming events happening at Desert Sun this summer. Of course, the next big event is our weekend series against the Tucson Toros, our in-state rivals. Tucson is a game behind us in the standings right now, and we'd love to send them home Saturday night a little further behind. Thursday is our second Dollar Beer Night of the season, presented by Budweiser. Our first, last week, was a great success, as people came out and enjoyed the night. We hope you will do the same tomorrow. Friday and Saturday we'll take on Tucson again before two days off for Memorial Day.
Next week, June 1-3, we welcome for the first time ever a team from Tijuana to the Golden League. The Cimarrones will come to town with three 6:30 p.m. games here at Desert Sun. Tijuana is one of two new teams in the GBL (Maui is the other), and we are aiming to give the fans a taste of Mexico during these games. Our in-house taco stand, Tacos el Toro, should do a brisk business during this series, and we'll add music and other elements to the games that will be sure to spice up the atmosphere.
Also upcoming is our second spectacular fireworks show of the season on Friday, July 2. I know that seems like a long way down the road, but it's only a few weeks away. This show will be the first, and maybe the largest, fireworks show of the July 4 weekend. If you've been reading the news, you know that the County Fairgrounds has cancelled their own July 4 fireworks show, so this is a great chance to bring the family out, enjoy some great baseball and stay around as we blow stuff up!
The final events I want to tell you about are our two Christian concert Faith Nights. On July 10 and August 7, we'll bring in a live Christian band to celebrate the message and combine a great night of baseball with an equally great reason to celebrate. If you are a member of a church in the area, this is a wonderful opportunity to do something a little different while you celebrate your faith. Group rate tickets are available now - simply put, any group of more than 20 people gets tickets half price ($3 for GA and $4 for reserved tickets with the discount). We'll honor the church with the largest group at the game with a ceremonial first pitch, a chance to introduce the band after the game, and more 'perks' as the events approach. As mentioned before, these events are also a great way to raise funds for your church group!
For information on any of our events, please give us a call at 928-257-4700, and we'll be more than happy to help you enjoy Scorpions baseball.
