Toros Swept In Extras And Lose 6-5

Tucson Toros News Release
The Tucson Toros lost 6-5 in 11 innings to cap a 3 game sweep be the Calgary Vipers on Tuesday. The loss was the fourth straight for the Toros, who finished the opening homestand with a 3-4 record.
The Toros trailed 5-4 heading into the bottom of the 9th but Second Baseman Jose Valdez tripled to deep right-center and Lino Garcia doubled him in to send the game into extras. In the 11th Calgary First Baseman homered on the first pitch from Toros reliever Andrew Snowdon to put the Vipers on top 6-5.
In the bottom of the frame Leftfielder Trevor Davidson reached on a hit by pitch. Centerfielder Lino Garcia singled sending Davidson to second. Rightfielder Victor Ferrante hit a ball to short that went as a fielder's choice after he hustled to avoid the double play, but Third Baseman Wally Backman Jr. grounded out to second to strand the potential tying run 90 feet from home plate.
Valdez had a huge game for Tucson, finishing just a double short of the cycle with a 4-for-6 performance that included his second triple and first homer of the season. He drove in 2 and scored twice.
Edgecombe matched Valdez' strong night at the plate with 4 hits as well, driving in 4 of the Vipers runs and scoring 1 himself.
Tucson starter Albie Lopez was taken off the hook for the loss with Tucson's late comeback. The righty allowing 5 runs on 10 hits and 2 walks in 6 2/3 innings in his second start for the Toros.
Tucson will enjoy an off day on Wednesday before hitting the road for three games in Yuma beginning on Thursday. The team will return home for a three game homestand starting Tuesday, June 1st.
