New Mexico Scorpions News Release

[HIDALGO, Tex. ]-The Killer Bees used a three-goal second period to beat the Scorpions 5-2. The loss halted New Mexico's three-game winning streak.

Rio Grande Valley's Josh Bonar scored only 50-seconds into the contest and the home team never looked back. The Scorps came out hard and tied the game up in the second period.

Konrad Reeder delivered a cross ice pass to Chris Robertson who took his time with the puck. Robertson then found an open Dominic Osman, who put it into the open net tying the game at one.

The Killer Bees answered in a swarm. Adam Edinger fired a power play shot past goalie Mike Minard giving Rio Grande Valley back the lead for good. Only 42-seconds later, Mark O'Leary extended the lead. Defenseman Andrew Smale tired to clear the puck around the boards, but it hit a seam and popped right to O'Leary who was able to tap in the easy goal.

The home team extended their lead when Jeremy Van Hoof's slap shot found the net late in the second period. It was the second power play goal of the night for Rio Grande Valley.

The Scorpions tried to come back as Andrew Smale scored a power play goal at the 9:40 mark of the third period. Unfortunately for Scorps fans, Jeff Van Nynatten continued to thwart away all of New Mexico's chances. Former Scorp Lance Herauf added an empty net goal to finish the scoring.

New Mexico continues their "South Texas Swing" Friday and Saturday in Laredo and finishes the road trip Sunday afternoon against Corpus Christi. The Scorpions return home on Friday, November 30 when the Colorado Eagles make a visit to the Santa Ana Star Center at 7:15 p.m. Friday and Saturday's games can be heard on 1050 KBTL starting at 6:15 with the pre-game show or seen on the CHL Network.
