Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
Waterloo, Iowa-Besides thrilling Waterloo hockey fans and pushing the home team to 20 victories, the 136 goals which the Black Hawks scored at Young Arena in 2012/13 served a greater purpose.
Led by a $25 per goal contribution from Fahr Beverage and other donations from Black Hawks fans, approximately $5,000 was generated for Folds of Honor last winter, and that successful partnership has been renewed for the 2013/14 hockey season.
Just a week from the nation's annual observance of Veteran's Day, Kelly Nicholson - director of sales and marketing at Fahr Beverage, the Cedar Valley's distributor of Budweiser products - noted that this is a special time of year to commemorate the sacrifices of armed forces personnel.
"Supporting the families of heroes is a cause everyone in the Cedar Valley can get behind, and the Black Hawks provide a great way to draw attention to the work Folds of Honor is doing," said Nicholson. "This partnership makes us all a little more proud when Waterloo scores."
Founded in 2007, Folds of Honor provides scholarships and other educational assistance to the families of fallen or severely wounded servicemen and women participating in Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom, and Operation New Dawn. According to the organization, over 700,000 military members have been killed or injured during those armed conflicts. More details about Folds of Honors and its efforts is available at foldsofhonor.org.
Individual Black Hawks fans can help the effort by pledging any amount per home goal. With a 25 cent per goal contribution, over $30 would be raised by the end of the season. Waterloo has scored 20 home goals so far in 2013/14. Sign up to make a pledge or contribution of any type at the Express Employment Professionals Fan Service Table during Black Hawks home games at Young Arena.
