School Days Games Return; More than 12,000 Students Take Part in Educational Fun

COMSTOCK PARK, MI - The West Michigan Whitecaps are showing kids that learning can be fun with three special matinee games. On Thursday, May 22, Wednesday, May 28 and Thursday, May 29 Fifth Third Ballpark will be turned into a classroom for the annual School Days games. Students attending will be able to see how baseball relates to math, geography, history, physical fitness and the environment.

To foster the learning process, the Whitecaps will have several different interactive displays set up around Fifth Third Ballpark during each of the School Days games. Schools planning to attend the games have also been given packets that will be used in conjunction with the booths. The packets are also available on-line at www.whitecaps-baseball.com. Once the students arrive at the game, they'll have to use the different booths in the ballpark to answer the questions in the packet. Separate packets have been created for upper elementary students and lower elementary students.

"I think the School Days games are a great way for students to see that learning can be fun," said Vice President of Operations Jim Jarecki. "The students realize the activities are fun and educational and they can apply what they learn in school outside of the classroom. It's a win-win situation for the kids, the teachers and the school district."

More than 12,000 students from 100-plus schools are expected to take part in the School Days games. The gates at Fifth Third Ballpark will open at 9:30 a.m. for all three games. For more information, schools can call the Whitecaps Ticket Sales Department at (616) 784-4131.
