Schmitz, Extreme Look To Rebound Against Spartans

Bloomington Extreme News Release
BLOOMINGTON (Ill.) ? There will be a new sheriff in town when the Bloomington Extreme host the La Crosse Spartans Saturday night at the U.S. Cellular Coliseum. Head coach Ted Schmitz will make his season debut as the new leader of the Extreme. Kick-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
The Extreme (3-5) are coming off a disappointing loss as the Omaha Beef rolled Bloomington, 66-25 last Saturday. The Extreme could not accomplish anything on either side of the ball, as Omaha had clear control of this contest from the first snap. Rocky Hinds had trouble finding his wide receivers for most of the game, completing just 19 of 46 passing for 218 yards with two interceptions and two rushing touchdowns. Bernard Payton carried the ball nine times for 39 yards and a touchdown. While the ball was distributed evenly throughout the wide receiver core, John Cooper caught four passes for 64 yards, most of which were stand-out plays.
Though it has been a disappointing start to their season, La Crosse got a big boost last Friday when the team earned its first victory. The Spartans used a balance of offensive pressure and stout defense to net their first win in franchise history. At game's end, the scoreboard read 35-29 and moved the Spartans to 1-7 on the year.
