Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release
The Winnipeg Goldeyes dropped the second game of a four-game set tonight, falling 4-1 to the Schaumburg Flyers in a lifeless effort before 6,824 at Canwest Park.
Schaumburg opened the scoring off Bill Pulsipher in the fourth. With Antoan Richardson on first after drawing a one-out walk, Victor Ferrante hit a comebacker that ricocheted off Pulsipher and rolled into shallow left. By the time Dee Brown tracked it down, the speedy Richardson was on his way home and beat the throw to make it 1-0. Ferrante ended up with a double and scored on a two-out single by Felix Jose. Things stayed that way until the seventh.
Lyndon Poole led off with a double and went to third when Jeff Dunbar reached on a fielder's choice. Poole was picked off shortly after, Tony Mansolino singled and Joe Pauley walked to load the bases, ending the night for Pulsipher. Mark Michael came in and was met by a Travis Brown single that scored Dunbar. Richardson followed with a sacrifice fly to score Mansolino and it was 4-0. Winnipeg got one back in the bottom of the inning off Jim Popp. Brent Metheny drew a one-out walk, Adam Frost singled and both moved up on a wild pitch. Pinch-hitter Cody Ehlers hit a high fly ball to right that allowed Metheny to tag up on and score.
Flyers starter Alain Quijano (5-6) picked up the win after tossing five-plus innings of shutout ball, allowing just two hits while walking four and striking out four. Pulsipher (4-2) suffered the loss after allowing all four runs on five hits with three balls and seven strikeouts. Jason Richardson picked up his 11th save with a shutout ninth.
