Right-Hander Strikes Out a Season-High 13 Men

JOLIET-Nate Sevier (3-3) went eight and one-thirds innings and SS Kevin Rios (2-3) hit a two-run home run in the 5th inning in a 3-1 win by the Joliet JackHammers (32-61) over the Kansas City T-Bones (45-49) before 5,295 fans at Silver Cross Field.

The JackHammers scored a run in the 1st inning against Kansas City LHP Ryan Knippschild (4-8). CF Adam Klein (2-4) singled and moved to second base on a past ball. He stole third base and scored on a sacrifice fly by 1B Freddie Thon (1-3) for a 1-0 Joliet lead.

The T-Bones tied the game at 1-1 in the 5th inning. 2B Neb Brown (1-3) singled and moved to third base on a base hit by 3B Jacob Blackwood (2-3). An RBI double by SS Jeff Helps (2-3) scored Brown to tie the score.

The JackHammers took the lead for good in the 5th inning. Klein reached base on an error and was retired on a fielder's choice hit into by 2B Rob Dahlberg (0-3). Rios smacked a two-run home run over the right field for his 5th home run of the season. The JackHammers took a 3-1 lead.

Loose Gravel: Sevier's 13 strikeouts surpasses the previous season-high of seven set by Jason Richardson against Fargo-Moorhead on July 16.
