Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release
BILOXI, Miss. - The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (17-26, 45-66) defeated the Biloxi Shuckers (23-19, 63-48) by a 5-4 score in the fourth game of the five-game series at MGM Park on Sunday night.
Jacksonville right-handed starting pitcher Robert Dugger (4-5) earned his second straight victory, working six and a third innings where he allowed three runs on five hits with a walk and he tied a career-high with nine strikeouts. Biloxi right-handed starting pitcher Cody Ponce (6-6) took the loss, allowing five runs (two earned) on five hits with two walks and four strikeouts. Jacksonville's right-handed relief pitcher Kyle Keller got the final four outs to earn his fourth save in 2018.
Brian Schales started the scoring in the top of the first with a two-run double to give Jacksonville its initial 2-0 lead. Schales struck again in the top of the second with an RBI single to put the lead at 3-0, before Joe Dunand reached on an error by Biloxi first baseman Richie Shaffer that plated two runs to set the lead at 5-0 Jumbo Shrimp.
Dugger's first four innings were perfect before Shaffer led off the bottom of the fifth with a solo homer to get the Shuckers on the board at 5-1. Clint Coulter added a two-run homer, his third home run in the past three games, that cut Jacksonville's lead to 5-3 in the bottom of the seventh. Corey Ray then got the Shuckers within a run in the eighth when he homered off left-handed Jacksonville reliever Miguel Del Pozo to put the score at 5-4, which would be the final.
Schales ended up going 4-for-4 in the game with three RBI, as he tied a career-high with four hits in a game. The win clinches a series victory over the Shuckers with Jacksonville winning three of the first four in the series. The Shrimp are now 6-2 on this road trip to the Gulf Coast, and Jacksonville has won back-to-back road series for the first time in 2018.
The Jumbo Shrimp and Shuckers will finish their series with the fifth contest of the five-game set on Monday night at MGM Park at 7:35 p.m. eastern.
