
BayBears Blast Barons with Early Runs and Stellar Pitching

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, jumped on the board with a pair of runs in the first inning and never looked back, winning their fifth straight game and seventh straight road game 10-1 against the Birmingham Barons Sunday afternoon at Regions Field.
Jahmai Jones drove in a career-high five runs, beginning with a two-run homer off Kodi Medeiros (7-6) in the second inning to extend Mobile's lead to 4-0. Jones hit a two-run double in the fourth and drove in his fifth run in the sixth on a fielder's choice.
Alex Klonowski (8-2) pitched seven scoreless innings, gave up three hits, and struck out six batters to earn his team-high eighth win. He tossed four hitless frames to begin the game before allowing a leadoff triple in the fifth.
The BayBears (56-54 overall, 19-23 second half) pitching staff held Birmingham (54-58, 22-22) scoreless for 24 consecutive innings, going back to Friday, before finally giving up a run on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth.
Jose Rojas hit his team-high 16th home run of the season, a two-run shot in the ninth, and Zach Gibbons also hit a solo home run in the seventh.
The BayBears wrap up the five-game road series against Birmingham Monday at 7:05 p.m. CDT. Right-handed pitcher Jesus Castillo (7-4, 4.72 ERA) is scheduled to make the start against southpaw Bernardo Flores (2-3, 2.29 ERA) for the Barons.
