BOUCHERVILLE, QC, October 24, 2006 - Sea Dogs rookie defenceman Yann Sauvé has been named to the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) roster for the 2006 ADT Canada-Russia Challenge being held next month.
The 16-year-old is one of 27 players from the QMJHL who will participate in the first two games of a total of six contests to be played against a delegation of Russian all-stars.
The Rouyn-Noranda Huskies will host the first game of the series November 20 at the Dave Keon Arena. The second game will take place the following night at the Air Creebec Centre in Val-d'Or. Then, the Russian delegation will head west where it will play two games against the OHL stars (Sarnia and Oshawa), followed by two games against the WHL stars (Chilliwack and Kamloops).
All six games will be televised nation-wide on Rogers Sportsnet. RDS will broadcast both games in QMJHL markets.
Lewiston MAINEiacs bench boss Clément Jodoin will be the head coach of the QMJHL team.
"This event represents a great opportunity for the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League to showcase its talent. Also, it's an opportunity for me to work closely with Hockey Canada towards the selection process of the next national junior team," said Jodoin, who will be an assistant coach on team Canada's coaching squad at the upcoming World Junior Hockey Championship in Sweden.
The Sea Dogs return to Harbour Station ice tomorrow night (Oct. 26) when they will host the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies. It will be the Huskies only visit of the season. Game time is 7 p.m.
