
Sausville Stymies Rox Bats In 6-2 Caps Win

Quebec City, Canada - Quebec starting RHP Dan Sausville dealt seven strong innings, allowing just two runs (one earned) and five hits as the Capitales defeated the Brockton Rox, 6-2, on Friday evening at Le Stade Municipal.
Sausville (3-0) entered the game with a 0.69 ERA and saw it increase to 0.90 after giving up the one earned run in the game. Quebec (12-2) scored two two-out runs in the first on RF Sebastien Boucher's league-leading third homer of the year. After a walk, 3B Alex Nunez came through with an RBI triple.
Brockton (6-8) fought their way back into the game in the middle innings, plating single runs in the fifth and sixth. With LF Mike Conroy at first base in the fifth, SS Dominic Ramos delivered a double down the left-field line, and Conroy motored all the way around to score. In the sixth inning, CF Chris Valencia led off with a double and moved to third on an error. Valencia then scored on RF Keith Brachold's single, as he drove in his 15th RBI of the season.
Rox starting RHP Freddy Flores received a no-decision in the contest after he went six full innings, allowing two runs on six hits with two strikeouts and one walk. RHP Santo Maertz took over in the seventh and Quebec proceeded to score two runs on four hits in the frame, capped by a Boucher RBI single. The Capitales added another pair of runs in the eighth inning to push their lead to four at 6-2.
The Brockton bats could only muster one hit over the final three innings of the game as the Quebec bullpen pitched two scoreless innings after Sausville departed. Maertz (0-3) was issued the loss in the game after letting the Capitales take the lead in the seventh.
Boucher finished 4-for-5 for Quebec with the homer and three RBI. C Patrick D'Aoust also delivered a two-hit performance for the Capitales. The Rox only totaled six hits for the night, with no player having more than one.
Game two of the three-game series is set for Saturday night at Le Stade Municipal with a 7:05 p.m. start. RHP Wayne Lundgren (0-1) takes the mound for Brockton against Quebec RHP Michel Simard (1-0). The finale of the series will be Sunday afternoon at 1:05 p.m.
