MCALLEN, TEXAS - The NBA Development League Rio Grande Valley Vipers, the Food Bank RGV, KTEX 100.3, Wild 104, The X 105.5, Hot Kiss 106.3 and Action 4 News announced today they are adding Saturday's 7:30 p.m. Vipers game at Dodge Arena to the Hoops Against Hunger schedule, offering one free ticket for each donation of four non-perishable food items.

286 pounds of food was collected for the Food Bank RGV on Monday, the single biggest output ever at a Vipers game.

"Follow the incredible success of Monday night's food drive, and in the spirit of the holiday season, we decided to add Saturday's game to the fight to bounce out hunger in the Rio Grande Valley. I also want to thank everyone who has and will donate to Hoops Against Hunger. We couldn't do this without the strong support of our communities," Vipers President Brian Michael Cooper said.

After Saturday, the remaining game dates are:

Wednesday, January 13 vs. Albuquerque Thunderbirds at 7:30 p.m.

Thursday, January 13 vs. Albuquerque Thunderbirds at 7:30 p.m.

Wednesday, March 10 vs. Austin Toros at 7:30 p.m.

The Vipers collected more than 2,500 pounds of food over their last 12 home games last season and continued to gather food during the off-season as well.

The Food Bank RGV, which is the fourth largest in Texas and 26th largest in the nation, distributes over 96,000 meals per week, with two-thirds of those going to children.

"In our fiscal year 2008, we distributed over 21 million pounds of food. Last fiscal year we distributed over 25 million pounds of food to 328,000 families. It's hard to imagine how we are feeding a lot more families than we did after [Hurricane] Dolly's aftermath," Food and Fund Drive Manager Carter Robinson said.

On Saturday, acrobat Fletcher Runyan will perform at halftime. Doors open at 6:30.
